Why Faith Matters

I often wonder why faith was so significant to God. Aren't we, as believers, trusting God to help us get through the day, return home safely, or be healthy and strong? He is deeply interested in working in us, with us, and for us. It takes faith to get out of bed each day, to go to work, attend school, and even to visit the grocery store. Every morning when we wake up, we don't question whether we will breathe; we confidently know it; that's faith in action.

The phrase “the just shall live by faith” is reiterated four times in the Bible, emphasizing its critical significance to God. After I sought God for the answer to my question, 'Why is faith so important to Him? ', the LORD told me that faith is so important to Him because it is a part of who He is. Once I thought more about it, it became clearer to me why.

Our God functions by faith, and if we are going to imitate Him, we too will function in the same manner. Romans 10:10 states: "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." We received the Gospel by believing in our heart and speaking what we believed by faith. When God spoke, when He created the earth, He used His faith; He believed it in His heart and spoke what He believed, knowing it would come to pass. Isn't that interesting? This shows us why it is so important to get the Word of God in us. Faith comes by continual hearing, and hearing the Word generates faith in our hearts, but faith without works is dead. We have to activate the faith in our hearts by speaking what we believe and giving God praise, as Abraham did in Romans chapter 4.

We can see how God Himself walked by faith and not by sight. He did not wait until He saw the land and trees to say something. He called those things that were not as though they were. This is how we are to walk, as our Father walked. If we are His children, created in His likeness and image, we are to imitate Him by operating the same way.

This is why faith is so important to God, because this is a part of who He is and how He functions. "But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him." Hebrews 11:6. Now we know why faith pleases God: acting as He acted demonstrates we are His, and doing so, we can enter into His rest. This is His desire for all mankind, whosoever will.
